The secret to creating realistic materials

Hey

Do you currently start your blender materials like this?
A standard Diffuse and Glossy combined together with a Mix Shader?

Well I've been doing (and teaching) this for years, but I've recently discovered it's physically inaccurate.

While Cycles does many things right, it doesn't handle reflections correctly. Which means that your render isn't looking as believable as it could.

But! Thankfully there's a recipe for making Cycles materials behave the way they should.

I've detailed it all in this latest tutorial for you:

In the video I show you how materials behave in the real world, and then how to set up cycles to behave correctly. Ending with a nice node group that can be used to make physically accurate materials like this:
If you want to make more believable renders, this is a tutorial you should watch :) Check it out.

Enjoy!
